Using Word Templates
Instructions for Saving and Using Word Templates
There are several Word templates located in the Word Templates folder
on the Local Rules cd.
Word template files should be saved to the user templates folder on your computer. To find out the location of the user template folder on your computer, do the following:
- Start Word.
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the File Locations tab.
- Click User templates, and then click Modify.
- The location of your custom templates is displayed in the Folder
name box.
- Note the path to the address (i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\anyone\Application Data \Microsoft \Templates)
- Click Cancel, and then click Close.
- Copy the custom template files on the cd to the location noted in step 5.
- Note: To view the user templates directory using Windows
Explorer, you may need to enable "Show hidden files and
folders"
- Right click Start
- Click Explore
- Click Tools>Folder Options
- Select the View tab
- Make sure the "Show hidden files and folders" radio button is selected.

Once you have saved your custom template files to the proper User Template folder, use the file by clicking on File>New>General Templates. The files you saved to the user template folder should appear under the General Templates tab.
