What is a Template?

A template is a a boilerplate document that contains settings, formatting, and styles you need frequently for various tasks. When you base a new document on a template, you don't have to change the settings all over again.  Word templates have a .dot extension while WordPerfect templates end with a .wpt extension.  Word and WordPerfect will recognize such files as templates and create a new, blank document based on the template instead of opening the template file itself.

Word templates are located in the Word Templates folder on the cd.  For instruction on properly saving and opening Word templates, click here.

WordPerfect templates are located in the WordPerfect Templates folder on the cd.  Unlike Word templates, WordPerfect templates have no special folder they must be saved to.
